Yeah, yeah I'm still working on my application....I almost have it completed, but I was just wondering how many extracurricular/community service/volunteer activities you all had? And when they say "extracurricular" are they talking about hobbies? Or strictly school-related sports? Thought I'd be better off asking than not knowing...Thanks 😀

Extracurricular activities include anything outside of the classroom. That includes, sports, clubs, or organizations you might be involved in whether they are a part of school or not. I don't think hobbies are included in this list.

Everyone has different amounts of volunteer hours for things...I happen to have a lot from various things, which isn't usually good...it supposedly shows I'm a bit of a scatterbrain with my time.

I've got a few hundred hours between clubs and organizations I've worked with over the years.

Okay I've got 3 different clubs/groups I've really worked with over the last couple of years. Total of maybe 70/80 hours... Ah, maybe it won't hurt me too bad... It says a limit of 10, and that made me laugh... 10? haha, I'm not even close to that.

Don't worry, most people don't have ten volunteer things, and those who do often are stretching back to that middle school trip they took to clean up the beaches twice a year.

Besides, it's not how much time you spent, it's what you did. In the section where you explain your role in the club...it's like a resume, don't just list a bunch of boring job duties...highlight achievements...then list the boring job duties.

All of mine are from college...should I list anything from high school?

If it was something you did and are still proud of...then sure.

I put one high school thing down because I did it for two years (I went with groups of seniors and Juniors to middle schools once a week to talk to kids about peer pressure, sex, drugs, etc....of course being 16, what they hell did we really know) I thought it was a great experience and put it.

I did other stuff that I didn't put in there, like the beach clean-ups I mentioned earlier, or volunteering at a hospital. They weren't significant to me and if I got asked in an interview...I wouldn't have a lot to say about the experience "uh...I pushed patients in wheel chairs around for a year and a half and sold flowers at the gift shop...yeah...great experience" If it isn't something that you would feel comfortable having a conversation about and how it has somehow made you a better person or how you truly enjoyed the experience, then forget about it.

yeah but lets say u didnt really acheibe anything other than helping the "community" like habitat for humanity? Is it still worth mentioning. I mean all I did was work in their restore, but it feels good helping people!

I seem to keep posting in this thread...

But like I said, if you felt good about what you did and think you would be fine talking about it if they bring it up in interviews...then put it. I left out volunteer activities I had done that I personally have no real passion for. I did them and then never really felt like I got much out of it or helped anyone all that much, so I left it out cause I wouldn't want to talk about it.

You seem to have gained something from your habitat to Humanity experience, and you seem to have enjoyed it...so put it down
