I volunteer at a local fire station as an EMT and a Firefighter. I have 1000 hours an EMT and around 500 as a Firefighter. I work 12 hour shifts and every five weeks I work a 24 and 48 hour shift on the weekends. I was planning on counting every hour I spent at the staion toward my clinical and non-clinical volunteering hours, but someone just tole me that I should only count 8 hours per shift because we are not responding to calls during the entire shift. What should I do? Is there any harm in counting all the hours I spent at the station?

How often are you responding to calls? You should tell us how busy your station is.

On weekends it pretty busy, with 5-6 calls per day depending on the apparatus, and on weekdays it truly varies. There are few nights wioth no calls and some nights wherewe get 15 calls all in the span of 6 hours.
