Extracurriculars

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes, open to interpretation, within reason, however, a hobby isn't really the same thing and again, that is information for the PS, not the EC section, but feel free to list whatever you want, I would not, however. Again, without some kind of external accountability, you could put pretty much anything on your app as an EC then...doesn't mean its true or real and it looks like you are padding your app in my opinion, but feel free to add whatever you want and take the chance.

You can look at any number of pre-dental pages for various colleges and you won't find mention of exercise as an EC.
Eh fine. The TMDSAS Extracurriculars section says "List any significant extracurricular, leisure activities or hobbies you have participated in since beginning college to the present," so it is a moot point as far as TX is concerned. Perhaps AADSAS is more strict about what they want in that section.

If it's asking for hobbies and leisure activities, great, because that is what those are. Obviously they categorize extracurriculars separately from exercise, body building and such just like I said.

You seem to have really strong feelings about this... I'm just saying that TMDSAS clarifies that hobbies and leisure activities do indeed fall under their Extracurriculars section. So it would be perfectly okay if someone listed a non-organized activity, at least for TX schools. Maybe AADSAS feels the same, or maybe not. Either way, I think our opinions can only take us so far. I'd love to hear an official source (AADSAS or one of their schools) confirm or deny your opinion on the EC section to lay this issue to rest.

Also was curious about this. Why wouldn't intramurals count towards extracurricular? I've played intramurals soccer for all but one semester of my college career. I feel like that is a big commitment, takes lots of time, and is definitely organized. Thoughts?

I'm an avid fisher as well. Avid as in, I go about three times a week. I definitely want to list that as a hand dexterity builder, but would that only be considered a hobby rather than an EC?

According to cliff's, Parallel evolution is "two related species made similar evolutionary changes after their divergence from common ancestor". In question 42 of DAT destroyer biology 2015, it says that the answer to a parallel evolution question is analogous structures, which share no common ancestor but perform similar functions. Wouldn't the answer be closer to homologous structures since they share an ancestor?

I'm sorry thought this was the destroyer thread I had it in another tab.
