Does it matter that I don't have that much volunteering but I have like 2 years of research? I have like 150 hours volunteering in a hospital, but that was from high school. I don't really have any volunteering in college.

You'd better have a stellar GPA and DAT scores. If you're not volunteering, then your time better have been used for studying!

Or write an entire ps on how the only reason you are interested in dentistry is because you want to serve the underserved.😉

Really? *scratches head*
It does seem like something that would be highly valued by adcoms, however.

well if you are interested in serving the community, then volunteering should be included in your EC to back up your PS. If you just splatter that statement on your PS without backing it up, then you are just fooling yourself

you guys really need to stop trolling. people come here to ask questions that they don't know the answers to, and neither of you helped out.

op: just make sure you have all your shadowing hours.

And, of course, your post did.

Yes, it matters. How much it matters depends on what other supporting attributes you have in your application (GPA, DAT, LORs, etc). This said, ECs are pretty important for your overall application...

you can volunteer as at homeless shelter or an after kids program. just get those hours in and theres a lot to do around your community

You are never too busy to volunteer. Make it a priority. The fact that you are here on SDN asking questions about lack of volunteering means you're not making much effort. Volunteering shouldn't always be about convenience; go out of your way to do some good in your community.

just try to find something you like and volunteer in it. it doesnt have to be a chore.
