So I am pre-vet (dont know how to change my username?? so if someone knows how to do that too...) and I have been working as a veterinary technician for the past few years. so I have all the clinical experience, but only in small animal, which is where I will go after vet school, but what else do I need? I obviously am around DVMs constantly (work in a clinic of 5 doctors so I see different methods for different things) I know how to put in IVcaths, draw blood, get up the meds, set up IVlines, help out with surgeries, but what else am I needing besides this clinical experience? I could do some volunteer work for ASPCA, and local shelters, but what else could help me? looking to go to A&M (only vet school in Tx as many of you may know) if not A&M, then OSU-

thanks for any advice!

Well, you will need prereqs of course, not sure if you mean prevet as in school or just for the sake of this board. Try to keep the grades up. Study and prepare for the GRE's!!

As far as experience you look g2g bases on Small animal, but if you can branch out a little into other species, it might look good. Volunteer with a large animal doctor, get a internship at zoo or wildlife park, or do some research it makes you look all the more impressive.

Also, get involved in community, preferrable something not animal related to show that you are well rounded.

As for Texas AM, remember that the main thing they look at (even though they do look at whole picture) are grades and GRES!!! So make sure those are up to par. They are a good school, so GL!! :luck:
