I always wear eye protection. You're the only one who'll feel stupid should you get some infectious disease due to being splashed in the eyes (especially not of your own doing). My eyes have been protected from splash injury on multiple occasions - and always due to someone else be it CRNA, RN, surgeon, anesthesia attending when in training and by my partners when coming in to relieve, break, etc.
Although the eyewear presented above look nice, you'll really want something to protect from splash that covers/touches your brow/forehead line.
I haven't found anything "nice" yet, so what I do is take one of those regular disposable surgical masks w/ splashguard, turn it upside down, fold the mask portion into a band and wear it tied around the forehead. It'll protect you from splash coming over the curtain (ie: ortho or vascular) and "raining" down; The overlap w/ your regular mask should handle frontal spray. In the rare event that something squirts directly up when you're looking forward... well... you're SOL...
Protect yourself, if not for you, then for your family (or future family).
