Washington, D.C. – In a historic move, the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced today that it will no longer seek research proposals exclusively for projects involving animals.

Now, of course the language is vague. I don't think they will move away from animals entirely. I mean, it's not like you are going to experiment on humans instead of mice for hypothesis testing and compound development. But I don't think you can just do animal models and cells or study just animal-based disease, it has to have a human component. That actually makes some sense to me.
