So, I just recently found out graduate school is unfortunately NOT the last time you have to care about the GRE. Had no idea NIH would want that for a grant app.

Anyone here apply for one? Any idea how much they care about the GRE? I did pretty piss-poor compared to what I was shooting for and thought the fact that a grad program let me in meant I was done having to care. I'm not retaking it when I'm already in grad school, because that seems insane😉

My hope is that its like grad school where as long as you do mediocre and everything else is in order it won't hurt you, but some confirmation from anyone who has been there would be nice.

I was recently awarded one. Don't worry about your GREs. Yes, you report them, but it ranks very, very low on the list of criteria. Far more important are: a) merits of your research proposal, b) quality of your training plan, c) your qualifications such as your publications, letters of rec, research experience, etc., d) your sponsor's (and consultants') qualifications, e) the feasibility of your plan, and so on. I doubt that GREs even get factored in (you don't even send them an official report or anything). So, no worries.

Feel free to PM me if you have questions about the F31 application process.

Being psychologists....they should understand that GRE are designed for grad school admissions and nothing much else......

Speaking of predictive validity, my psychometrics professor was rather disturbed when some prestigious medical residency programs asked his daughter for her SAT scores in the application. Ridiculous!!😱
