Hi everyone, I have a FA 2007 edition from an upperclassman. Should I get the newest edition or will this be enough for Step 1. Have there been that many changes in terms of what we have to know for the Step1 that the newest edition is required?

Thanks a lot for any help,

Butnever

Well, I used FA 2008 for my exam two weeks ago because I annotated the hell out of it and didn't want to make the switch once 2009 came out. However, the FA is perhaps the most important book in your entire Step 1 preparation. I suggest you get the latest version, especially when the one you have is more than 2 years old and is still not annotated by you.

I used the 2005 edition, and did just fine. Qbanks and other resources will fill in any holes where FA (whichever edition is used) is deficient. The key is to stick with a resource you're familiar with and know it well. Any new additional information is not going to be of any use if it isn't studied.

I've got a 2008 and will be taking the exam this coming summer (2010). A relative bought it for me last year as an M1. I plan on annotating FA as I go along this year in M2 . . . should I buy a 2009 to do that? Also, when would a 2010 come out?

buy the new one

I see the 2010 comes out in January . . . Anyone have any clue whether this will be worth buying for the summer before boards? Or should I just stick with the 2009 if I buy one now since I'll be annotating it from the beginning?

It depends on when you start studying (sooner is always better). 1yr between editions will only make a slight difference in material. According to the reports I've read... there won't be major changes done this year compared to last year's overhaul.

I happened to catch a glimpse of someone's 2009 FA today and it looks significantly thicker than my 2008. What could possibly be the reason for that?
