So I have tried to study most of RR path intently and now when it is time to consolidate and assimilate I cannot recall most of what I read. It is almost as if I never read RR path.
So after freaking out, I have decided to focus on FA 09 + do UW questions + read over Dr. Goljan's notes and review BRS physio.

I found RR path extremely well written but I am not able to regurgitate.

Something else that sets me apart is that I was on a leave of absence for last year, so it is almost that this stuff is new (remember hearing about it at sometime but not well enough to recollect)

So far i have been averaging ~50% on UW with 3 more weeks to go for the exam.

Any thoughts:scared:

Sure, there's a lot of minutiae in RR which is hard to assimilate, but the one thing I really like about the book is that it lists mechanisms for pretty much every disease process. I'd recommend really focusing on that aspect. Don't move on from a disease until you can understand why it produces its clinical manifestations and test results. Especially know the screening/confirmatory tests and the mechanisms of those as well.

And his summary tables are golden for getting the important facts about each disease. Really read through those closely and carefully.

I'll read a bulleted section then tell myself to recall the important points from that section. It forces me to use some brain power when reading and lets me know if I'm really assimilating information or just skimming.

Try to listen to his audios, I found it very amazing and enjoyable even though I am MS-0 with no knowledge on Path.🙂
Good luck with your study.

MS-0? Does this mean you haven't even started medical school yet and you're already listening to goljan audio? There are people I know who didn't even know what Step 1 was until well into 1st year. Anyways...

To the OP - If you do have the audio then I'd suggest pounding those out over the next few weeks. They are really good at hitting all the high-yield stuff from each system (although maybe not totally complete), and they will probably help you remember the stuff that you read in his book. I personally have been reading along with the corresponding chapters in BRS path, but to each his own. I think its important to try to do some questions after each system to see how much you actually remember (and because it helps a lot of people cement stuff into their brain when simply reading it does not). I know several students who used the following website for free path questions that can be split up by organ system:

http://library.med.utah.edu/WebPath/webpath.html

Another one that appears to be pretty good is:

http://www.wikitestprep.org

So listen/read over a system and do some questions to see if you actually remember the important info. Who knows, maybe you actually already do and you just can't recall it without being faced with a question/clinical scenario. Good luck!

I did not mean to being a gunner or anything😀. Since my older brother is medical student so I am kindda familiar to the board exams. Just want to help people within my limit.

Thanks for the response - I do think that RRpath is great. The big concern for me now is the time factor.
Hence FA.
What scores have sdners had using just FA + UW?

Anyone not study and pass? I mean, with all this potential time off, the Swiss Alps are calling! (Yodeling=HOT)

A guy that just graduated from my school got a 232 on the CBSE exam that the school administers a month or so before the end of MS-2. He hadn't studied at all up to that point though... Apparently he did study afterwards though, because he ended up getting a 267 on the real deal and matching into urology at Mass General.

Since you aren't in medical school Step 1 isn't anywhere near your limit. If you want to help people try the pre-allo forum. There you can give advice on something, and know what the hell you're talking about.`

Daaaaym!

You can't just read RR path...you have to DRILL it. It takes time, but keep hitting the chapters, quizzing yourself on each of the salient points. In my experience, the hours spent with RR path were the most 'high-yield' of my step 1 studying. Don't waste your time with FA, just focus on RR path and World.

yea i have to agree with this. im on my fourth read or so and im still learning new things, the book is like a treasure chest.

Although, path isnt 100% of the test, so I wouldn't ignore FA altogether. If anything, only ignore the path sections...

Started my boards prep and trying to annotate everything into FA so I can have FA as my final source for studying (like Taus and RumorsWereTrue).

Now what should I do with the patho sections of the system sections in FA? 1.Should I annotate RR -> FA?
2.Annotate whats in FA from RR?
3. Skip the patho in FA and use RR only for Patho?

What do u guys think?😕
