I started to study for the USMLE and scheduled it on this month, so had to syudy from the FA2013 and I aded tons of info on it....now as i got nearer I found out I am not very prepared for the exam, so i extended my eligibility period to december-february so i can do it on february...

Now my question is whether the 2014 edition of FA adds a lot over the 2013 or not? I have been studying the 2013 and adding notes to it, so is it a good ida to move everything to the 2014 edition when it is out? Or the amount of extra info is not that much?

I would probably get it, if only to scan what new 'topics' were added, and maybe study those new figures/tables, but i wouldn't use it as a replacement completely for a few reasons:

1. You have already annotated your other copy
2. You have already updated 2013 with the errata
3. 2014 Errata will probably be extensive (2012? what happened there! Sometimes this is a problem)
4. By February the errata wont even be complete
5. Its not a huge deal, 1 year difference between First aids does not = 220 vs 260... Like not even ever.

Why would the errata of 2014 be extensive?

If you've ever tracked any of the same topics over the years in First aid, even from 6-7 years back, why is it that a section that had no errors a previous year, then has errors, then is free of errors, then errors again?

I dont know, maybe you should ask the First Aid staff and their editors.

All I know is, even if the exact same topics are covered in the new editions, I highly doubt the errors will be less than 2013, maybe the same, maybe more.

Like is said, if you go back in time, did first aid start off with in insane amount of errata which got better and better each year? It's just random, and I can't predict that 2014 will be better just because its newer, because thats not always the case.

What I can guarantee you, is that the errata will not be zero. Leaving room to be confused, or learn things wrong given that by February maybe only 1 errata update might come out.

Don't use another book. You will lose all those little mental cues you get from reading the same book over and over. That "it was on this page under the kidney" memory.

Honestly there's not going to be some super duper secret fact in the new FA that will skyrocket your mark.
