I was having lunch with my dad today and he brought up an interesting question... We've all heard of people who are not hired partially due to their facebook profiles and pictures they have up. Is this something that pod schools could possibly look at as well and could it affect admission?? I legitimately don't feel like I have anything to worry about, but it was just a very thought provoking question.

I think you answered your own question 🙂

Could they? Absolutely. Do they? Well, had they seen some of my pictures, status updates, interests, etc. I probably wouldn't have gotten in anywhere. Kidding. I don't think they have the time or manpower to check each applicants page, especially with most everyone having their privacy settings where you have to be friends to see anything.

Plus, most programs are hurting for quality students. Meaning that picture of you passed out naked, wrapped around a toilet with all your friends standing around with sharpies isn't going to affect your admissions.

if you think they are questionable, then yes they are. DMU just had a speaker last week (i didnt attend) talk about facebook and well over 150 people went.

I am sure even with a questionable facebook profile a qualified applicant will get in. It might be a good idea just to clean it up anyway. We are going to be podiatrists. Hopefully our profiles don't make us look like a bunch of schmoes.

No time like the present to start acting like a professional.
