does anyone know/have experience with taking classes at NIH's grad school- FAES

The $ per credit is much cheaper here than my UG, and I just wanted to see if these are worth taking.

IRTA students are allowed to take couple classes each semester. Those courses are designed for NIH graduate and post-bac students. You can take courses such as neuroanatomy and pharmacology.

apparently anyone can take them, i spoke with them earlier this week.
do you know if its beneficial for d-schools?? its weird because some of the courses are only 2 credits...like immunology and endocrinology.

You are getting grades so you should. I am wondering how I can take those classes too. I think the registration is closed for Fall, but lets take some classes together in the Spring. Its cheap too.

I am currently taking the FAES biochem class. From what I understand, yes, this counts like a normal undergrad-level class. If you want the credits to transfer back to your undergrad institution, you have to inquire if they accept FAES credits. Otherwise, you have the FAES transcript sent directly to AADSAS.

You have exams for 2 credits course?

Well biochem is 3 credits, but yeah, midterm + final counts for 70%, quizzes count for 30%.

edit: and there's a quiz every week, but only the top 3 of 10 are counted.

I have a Master's degree but I still want to take more graduate courses 😀. Which Biochemistry are you taking?

Biochem I, since I never took it in undergrad, and put it as "plan to take" on my AADSAS. I've only had one class so far, but the professor seemed pretty good. The lecturers will rotate though, I believe we have 4 in all.

Limonada, do you mind sharing about the "rigor" of these courses? I go to a UC and have done well in the sciences but fear if I take one I may do poorly. Are these compairable to UG courses taught at a regular university? or are they bad*ss difficult?

What has been your experience?

Take atleast 9 credits or so. Isn't better than taking any courses?

This is my first FAES class, but according to my co-worker, who's taken biochem and anatomy through FAES, the rigor is the same as an undergrad course taught at any university. IMO, the fact that we have to take a quiz every week might make it even easier than an undergrad course because I will be forced to actually study continuously 😉

Our textbook is Lehninger Principles of Biochemistry, if you want to compare to what they used at your institution.
