Hi all, first post! I am in the midst of my quarter life crisis and realize my current job (paralegal) is not the most fulfilling. I have been interested in PT (mainly through contact with trainers and experiences growing up), yet I have really bad science grades. what am I to do? Is taking a post bac health studies program worth it? I may not have the aptitude, but I have the desire. Thanks in advance.

If you want to apply to PT school, I strongly suggest going back and retaking any classes you failed or made a D in. I know people who didn't get in the first time around and went back to retake classes they made Cs in to attempt As and Bs. I'm being totally honest with you when I tell you that Ds and Fs on your transcript are not good when it comes to programs as competitive as PT schools are right now. Plus, they kill your GPA.

Also, how long has it been since you completed all these classes? Make sure you check into your school's rules about how long your credit hours stay "good" for. At my school, it's 10 years. After that, prereqs must be repeated.

Never out of the game are you...retake any D or F and consider retaking any C's you get if you have the opportunity. Work hard and you WILL get there.

As stated previously, you're only out of the game if you want to be. However, keep in mind that the basic sciences in health professional schools (medicine, dentistry, podiatry, physical therapy, etc.) is heavy on biology, and arguably one of the more important subjects of the prerequisites.

I agree with this.. but for PT school, your anatomys and physiologys are going to be the biggest. Basically, you don't want to come in there with anything less than a B on those very important prereqs. Your first year of PT school will depend on how well you did with those.

Another offer of advice. Like you, I do not have fantastic grades in my science classes, but I have decided to complete a 2nd Bachelor's degree in order to improve these grades. From speaking with the admissions committees at the schools I'm interested in, getting a 2nd degree reflects really well upon you. Also, it's much cheaper to get a 2nd degree rather than going through a formal post-bacc program. Just some food for thought!

They do accept C grades in science prereqs courses, but the cumulative GPA for these prereqs courses must be B or above. Each school requires anywhere from 40-49 prereqs courses. So you need a few A's to counter the C's that you have, or you must have only B's in all of these courses. What I am saying is if you have a couple of C's it's not a big deal. Absolutely no Ds.
