I never could get my times tables down in 3rd grade...they let me into dental school anyway. Maybe there's a little hope for you.

I know it sounds stupid to ask. But my chemistry teacher knows that i have wanted to be a dentist for a while now , and he told me that i failed and probably wouldn't be accepted into dental school for it. I know that dental schools probably don't look at high school grades but i have to know if they for sure don't because if they do look at my chemistry grades then i want to take it in the summer over.

I had a high school guidance counselor who steered me away from medicine and into engineering for reasons known only to himself. What a jerk!

Don't worry about what anyone in HS tells you. HS is so far away from where you are going that no one is going to care that you flunked chem. Just be sure you get A's in chem in college.

Thank you soooooo much!!! thats all i wanted to know. i appreciate it alot..😳

Of course you can become a dentist if you really want to. Make up for it in College by putting in a lot of good hard work into your inorganic and organic chem classes and pulling some nice A's and you will be just fine.

thankss guys! yeah i really want to become a dentist and next yr is my senior year and im doing AP bio and pgysics, i excell more in Bio anyways but i have a 95 average in chem, i just failed the most important test is all.

But thanks for helping mee!!

dude... you're fine...
punch your chem teacher in the nuts for me for saying something that stupid to you....

I was expelled from 2 highschools, dropped chemistry the 2nd day of class, failed more than my share of classes and had a discipline file about 12 inches thick...

The teachers that thought I wouldnt succeed in life will soon be calling me doctor if we bump into one another...don't worry about highschool or anything they tell you in it

haha! Story please? You have to elaborate on this for the rest of us.

I got D's in my chemistry class in high school. My teacher said i was pretty much an idiot I couldn't do basic unit conversions. Even though I had a strong math background.

Well I have just finished up my Masters in Chemistry, and am going to dental school in the fall. So anything is possible. High School doesnt matter, as long as you can learn from your mistakes, you'll be fine.
If you tried in your highschool chemistry class, and still did bad, your teacher might have just been a hard ass, but I found those teachers the best, because when I got to college, and took chemistry I rocked it, because he prepared me well. just dont let someone tell you that you cant do it, you can always suprise them.

you're chem teacher is just bringing you down, for all you know he was once an aspiring dental student that couldn't make the cut.

thanksss!!! yeah i thought it was a little weird colleges would care about high school chemistry......but it makes me feel soooooo much better knowing this..

High school means ****, I graduated at the bottom of my class, and I mean I was in the bottom 10%. I was a total slacker, flunked Algebra twice(weird cause I am good at math now). I got into dental school, yeah I had to kick some butt later on in college, but thats all that matters College, well and the DAT, applications, essays, and interviews.

This is not the time to freak out, take it easy hang out with friends and don't come back to SDN until you are halfway through your undergrad.

This is funny, because my high school chem teacher was a dental student reject.

MOST OF THE PEOPLE YOU TELL YOU THAT YOUR STUPID AND WON'T MAKE IT AS A DENTIST A DENTAL STUDENT REJECTS!!! THINK ABOUT THAT!

I flunked chem in high school and graduated by the skin of my teeth. I did not have many aspirations at that time; but I'm fairly sure that had I asked my teachers about my chances of getting into d-school, I would have expected them to laugh their a$$es off. Funny enough, I went to college and did well enough in chem to be recommended to TA as an undergrad. One of my letters of rec to get into dental school was from my chem professor. The point (similar to what others have stated) is that high school means jack and **** when it comes to getting into d-school. Just snag as many A's as possible in your pre-dent science courses in college.

On a side, hopefully you'll run into your teachers years later (usually at the local watering holes in my town) and get to yank their chains a little bit about what you do. Knowing that my slacker image would be the only thing they would see, I would come up with some wacky career substitutes to bust out (ex. toilet seat maker, fire-breather for the circus, selling blouses out the back of my truck, etc.) and I swear they would believe it. When I finally told them I was in dental school, it was like they had been sucked into the twilight zone 😱 Always worth it... 👍

hahahah these stories are hysterical!! im so happy now. Conradulations to you guys for making it so far!

Thank you soooooo much!!! thats all i wanted to know. i appreciate it alot..😳

some hs teachers are bitter ****s. i made a C in chem in high school if i remember correctly and made an A in college. just work hard in COLLEGE! thats what really matters

YOU DID WHAT😱..... I hate to break it to you, but you can pretty much forget about applying to Havard Dental School :scared:...

But seriously, dont get too stressed over that....concentrate on working hard and doing well in college and you should be fine in the long run...

when i first looked at your post i was scared! haha thanks

Don't sweat it. Work extra hard in college and you will get into dental school. Make sure you ace Gen Chem 1 (no D+ 🙂 )
