Hi everyone,

Was wondering if anyone had any advice. I'm looking to do an allo psych residency. I received a 230 on my USMLE first try, but I failed my COMLEX . I just managed to pass it on my 2nd try with a 580. Does anyone know if failing the COMLEX I will affect me if I'm only aiming for an Allo residency?

Thank you for any input,

Sorry to hear that. How is this even possible? Oh, I know... because the COMLEX is a crap shoot. 580 is a very good score. Makes no sense that someone goes from failing to a retake with that score. It's the nature of this garbage of an exam I guess. I think you will be ok, especially with the nice USMLE score. What field(s) are you looking at? Some places may screen you out with a failed exam, but I'm thinking that you failed the right one (if given a choice).

Do allopathic residencies require you to send them COMLEX scores? I dunno but I was thinking if you don't have to send them your COMLEX scores then they might not even know he failed COMLEX\?

They do now. Most programs ask for students to list all scores. In fact, the ERAS application calls for it. Failure to disclose is lying by default and that can creep back and bite one on the @$$ somewhere down the line. I'd go with the truth on this one.

Yea it doesn't help that I'm really bad at and dislike anything anatomy/neuroanatomy/omm. My test was really neuro heavy. As far as fields, I'm only interested in Psych as of right now.

I'm sure you'll be ok. May cost you and invite here or there, but it shouldn't be a big deal if you apply to enough places.
