I failed a course my first year due to some personal issues. Due to that class being a pre req for another class i am behind a year, While im upset with myself about this being a pharmacist is a goal of mine so ive decided to stick it out. I came in with a few graduate level courses and they will not let me transfer them... Should I try to play catch up or just deal with the fact ill be paying for an extra year of school?

How would you catch up? It doesn't seem like this is possible for you.

From the US just another schoolWhere are graduate courses from. What country?

Taking the courses at another school?
You trippin.
In all seriousness though, sorry you are in this situation op, getting held back a year could really happen to anyone.
OP, are you currently enrolled in a professional PharmD program or in a pre-pharmacy program? Everyone is answering you as if it’s the former, but your responses imply the latter.
If you’re in pharmacy school you’re usually not allowed to transfer or take classes for credit at another pharmacy school.
If you’re talking pre-pharm, do whatever you want...it doesn’t matter.

Also if you're failing this early, you should seriously consider dropping out, the courses only get harder.
it depends, i've failed a good amount of exams, got two D+'s and a lot of C's throughout pharmacy school but i still graduated, passed my boards, and now a licensed rph so.... yeah. i was the kid in the back of the lecture hall goofing around my buddies during therapeutics and taking naps, now i'm called doctor, cool stuffAlso if you're failing this early, you should seriously consider dropping out, the courses only get harder.

So, you feel good about being the "public defender" of the pharmacy world?
i'm sorry? i don't understand what you are sayingSo, you feel good about being the "public defender" of the pharmacy world?
Play catch up. Paying for an extra year of school is a drag. The difficult part is coming to terms with the fact that you won't be earning a salary for a year.I failed a course my first year due to some personal issues. From my experience - if you fail a course in Pharmacy School - you’re kicked out until the next cycle if you choose to reapply..
If it’s a prerequisite course then IMO it shouldn’t matter where you’re taking it at as long as you take it and pass it... it’s probably more preferable at the same school you failed it at..
Either way, good luck..

Forget the all negativity here, it all comes down to you. You should know whether you're able to make it through or not. Look for support to help you get through (families, friends, professors, etc...). I had a 3 classmates who failed their first year, 1 dropped out while the other two eventually graduated and got job offers right after graduation. You can still get a residency if you've really shown huge improvements. Retail position on the other hand don't care about grades, only experiences.

lol nobody calls a pharmacist doctor lmao, lets be honest, we just a pill counter with a fancy degree, a disposable cog that can be replaced in a heart beat.
Depends on what community you work in or where a person is from and how pharmacists are respected there. In south Florida you are constantly being called doctor and are well respected. I was called doctor today by a person of Iranian decent.lol nobody calls a pharmacist doctor lmao, lets be honest, we just a pill counter with a fancy degree, a disposable cog that can be replaced in a heart beat.

Well yeah, that would make sense, because in Iran, pharmacist are on the level of doctors. That doesn't negate the fact that most people in the US think of pharmacists as pharmacy technicians, not doctors.
Well pharmacists have to run to the counter at the drop of a hat when the tech yells "barcode." Pharmacists pretty much allow themselves to be treated like slaves.Well yeah, that would make sense, because in Iran, pharmacist are on the level of doctors. You failed a year. What are you going to do about no longer being eligible for federal loans?

Huh? Where did you get that from?

Our profession is only as strong as the hungry and desperate new grads with $200k+ in loans who went into the profession for the money.
What is this “barcode” shenanigans??Well pharmacists have to run to the counter at the drop of a hat when the tech yells "barcode." Pharmacists pretty much allow themselves to be treated like slaves.
Every new or transfer rx requires the pharmacist to scan a barcode at POSWhat is this “barcode” shenanigans??

Interesting. Please tell me more things you have invented. Are the students also placed on double secret probation?
I don't think it's possible to catch up in pharmacy school due to the way they sequence the classes. We had at least five or six people who joined our class from the year ahead of us, so don't feel too bad because it happens. It's definitely a bummer from the financial aspect of things, but I would just focus on studying hard in the class that you are in now (so it doesn't happen again).
Not sure about the federal loan thing. I don't think that's true at all (but I only failed classes in undergrad, not pharmacy school so who knows...).

Just deal with it, I know several kids that have been held back a year for one reason or another. I would recommend working on a minor or another degree in your year off like business. Or you can switch to part-time and work and make money.I failed a course my first year due to some personal issues. Here is some proof from my friend on the east coast that failed a year, a few years ago...
"[REDACTED] failed to make satisfactory academic progress toward your degree at the end of the most recent semester. This letter is to officially inform [REDACTED] that [REDACTED] have been placed on Financial Aid Warning status as a result of that decision.
While on Financial Aid Warning status, [REDACTED] may continue to receive Title IV financial aid for one more semester. If [REDACTED] fail to achieve satisfactory academic progress while on Financial Aid Warning status, [REDACTED] will not be eligible for additional financial aid until all requirements for satisfactory academic progress have been achieved. "
you realize if the government didn't do this individuals could just become full time students that keep failing every year to earn ~25,000 USD a year doing a easy job right?
I don’t know why you put a spoiler warning on that but ok.
The letter says they have a semester to improve before losing benefits. So even if you failed a semester of pharmacy school you would still have at least a semester to make it up. The letter literally says the opposite of what you said.
I had a few classmates who fell a year behind at one place or another, and when they were playing catch-up, they ended up with a reduced class load for the next two years. Never heard of anyone losing their student loans, although some people lost scholarships because they didn't maintain a certain GPA, and you don't have to fail a class to do that. Keep in mind that this was over 25 years ago.
