I just recieved my CS results and unfortunately failed. It was the data gathering/physical exam that did me in. I seriously underestimated this test and went in with basically no preparation. The thing is I'm a caribbean student which makes me eligible to prematch. The interview season went fantastic for me and I got 6 prematch offers and already signed the contract with what would have been my top ranked program. I contacted my program director (well, hopefully WILL be my program director) and he told me he wasn't "terribly concerned" but wants me to let him know when I get a new date.
Everybody here knows getting a date for CS anytime in the next 4-5 months isn't as easy as it sounds. So, it's unlikely that I'll be ECFMG certified by the time residency begins. Has anybody heard of a similar situation and how to handle it? Ever heard of programs letting people start late? Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can give me.

If the program lets you start later, which I doubt because then they will be down a resident and everyone else will have to pick up the slack, then you should have no problem. This same thing happened to a close friend of mine last year. The program claimed that since he would not be ecfmg certified by the start date his contract was void and they signed someone else. He ended up sitting out a year and is currently in the 2008 match. Do whatever you can to get the earliest start date. I posted some tips on passing the CS not to long ago. Take a look, i think they will help.
Good luck!!!🙂
