Failing a block in med school

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
so what happens when you fail a block? are you screwed in terms of residency or does it not make too much of a difference?

I've never failed a block before, but I think i might have just done it....last year (MS1) i high passed about 50% of my blocks....MS2 is a lot harder i think, or maybe i'm getting dumber. . . thanks

It's like I'm reading about myself. I hope we aren't screwed for residency. At my school we have an opportunity to take a supplemental final (in June) for whatever finals we didn't pass. But that's only up to a max of 3, after that, that fails stay on your transcript and either you re-do the year, or you're done.

Depends what you mean by screwed for residency. You will still likely match into something, you just will have fewer choices as to what.

Eek...second year scares me. I have done really well so far this first year and I am happy with that. I have heard second year is a lot more volume - plus the stress with boards. I am not looking forward to next year...

That's a very tricky signature booswim!

Naaahhh.

2nd years not that bad. I hated first year because alot of it seemed so pointless... I guess b/c I had alot of that in undergrad.

2nd year is exciting. You can feel yourself getting closer to 3rd year and actually doing what you came here for. Step 1 stresses me out, but its all part of the game.

Hang in there.

Block grades are recorded at schools? Since when? I always thought that it was the cumulative grade that you got at the end of the semester is what counted, not each individual block grade- unless of course that block grade contribuetd to you failing the course. Otherwise if you pass it, and assuming that block grades are not on your transcript and only your cumulative is, then I would think that you should be fine.
