I failed Ochem II with an F and am retaking it. I need advice on whether i should take it an easier school or at my university. I understand that many opt schools don't require it so should I even retake it?

I can't speak to whether or not you should retake it. BUT if you do decide to retake it, don't take it at an easier school. That isn't going to prove anything to an Admissions Committee. They will expect better from you the second time you take a class and an easier school won't really prove that you can handle the hard classes.

Thank you! I've signed up to take it at an university, but i just can't seem to wrap my mind around the idea of taking it since I know a lot of schools don't require. Since it isn't a pre-req would it look that bad?

Why would it look bad if you were retaking a course you got an F in? The only thing that would look bad is if you got an F in the course again 😛 but that won't happen =)

It may not be a pre-req for some schools, but it IS a pre-req for other schools. I'd say retake it so that you don't close any doors in terms of admission.

I think this is good advise. Also, you need to address the failure. It's easier to explain a failure in a class that you retake and pass than one that you don't. Admissions committees will ask you about it either way. If you don't retake it, it looks like you gave up.

I got a D in O-Chem II, didn't retake it, and i was never asked about it.. guess it just depends on the school.

Why don't you just call up your favorite schools and ask what they would have you do about it. It's true that some of the schools don't require it, so they'll let it slip when it comes to assessing you as a candidate, but you best get that information from the horses mouth.

Dawg OD and I both go to SCO and while he didn't get asked about his D, I definitely did get asked about some questionable trends in my grades. So just call them up and see what they want you to do, all of us have had separate and different experiences and I wouldn't want you to make such a decision based on what we say here.

Thank you so much guys! All of this has been really helpful!
