Ok here is my situation. I was accpeted to med school last october and I am currently enrolled in a masters program. My accpetance was not contingent on my finishing this program. During this quarter I hurt my back pretty back and with all the time between physical therapy/doctors visits and my research position I became frustrated with trying to heal and put all the time into studying for classes that didnt really matter. So I quit going to class and will faill them all. When I send in my final transcript, will they go back over it and see all the F's from the final quarter? Do you guys forsee this being a big deal with my school, possibly enough to revoke my acceptance? I know the easiest way to find out would be to call them and ask, but I dont want to call attention to it if they wouldnt notice in the first place. Thanks in advance.

Originally I just wanted to drop out of school but i would have lost my health insurance and my monthly stipend and had no money to live on. Also, when I spoke to financial aid about it, they said something about having to pay back most to the loan money I had taken out. In retrospect it was dumb to do, but at the time it seemed like a good option.

You need to do some work with the school and with your medical school, as far as getting this issue taken care of. Obviously use your health and money issues.

If you don't bring it up to anyone and just sit it out until school begins, you may be sorry when they get your transcript, which you are required to send.

May you could get a friend to call the school and ask them, or have a current student look into it for you. Would sure beat a nasty surprise in the future. 😱

are med school administrations generally sympathetic towards these types of situations or should I really start to panic about this? I would be so devastated if they revoked my addmission after all of my hard work because of a stupid back injury and some classes that wouldnt have counted toward anything had I finished them anyway.

Can you not just send the Transcript now, and don't send one later? That way the F won't show up, and since the classes don't count towards anything, I doubt they would ask for one with your grades for classes in progress?

You are REQUIRED to send the later transcript. If you fail to send the transcript, it will result in automatic dismissal from the school. They have ways of finding out if you didn't send it.

I would contact the school as early as possible about your situation. Witholding information until it is too late would be a bad idea.

However, I don't think they will like it too much, but that doesn't mean they won't get over it.

Yes, contact the school now and tell them your situation. Talk to someone in person if you can and let them see your face and see how dedicated you are. Definately make a big deal about your injury and your finacial aid situation. Sending in an early transcript wont be accepted and makes you look bad, don't listen to that comment.

OSUdoc08 how do you know what his school will require? I know you have a lot of knowledge but sometimes you seem to be the authority on everything. You don't know for sure what his school requires or if he will get an automatic dismissal. I'm not starting an argument, it just seems that over and over you comment on everything without immediate knowledge

In regards to the original post. You said "you will fail all of them". Does that mean you may have time to get a WF. It looks much better than just failing them. Perhaps call the registrar and see if you can withdraw with WF due to injury. Then it would just look like you missed the deadline to get a W. Just a suggestion

Hey Chaser..first thing I would tell you is contact your school directly (you could even pose the question without identifying yourself )

Perhaps my experience can shed some light on the situation. This spring I am taking several courses which I felt would help me in med school such as anatomy, biochem etc…I already have my bachelors and am only taking these classes because I thought it may help. Unfortunately I am real busy and the courses are real hard so its safe to say I’m doing pretty bad. I was worried about revocation so I called. Heres what I was told: As long as I have the pre-reqs completed with a minimum of C (which I’ve had), my bachelors is complete (which it is), and my cumalitive GPAs doesn’t drop below a 3.0 (which wouldn’t happen even if I received 30hours of F’s) nothing would happen with my acceptance status. I even asked her…”so I could hypothetically fail all my classes and I would still be able to begin in the fall” and she said “yes”

I think the bottom line is that unless you violate some minimum provision of your acceptance agreement then you should be fine. I don’t think med schools are in the business of revoking acceptances, plus revoking an acceptance is a big deal which in most cases would require some kind of hearing. Its not something that would happen “willy-nilly” and again unless some provision or rule is violated then it wont happen.

OSUdoc08…..Why do you make comments such as “…Oh yes. It will be very likely that they will revoke you acceptance..” What are you baseing this on, you sound like you have every schools student code on your desk. I don’t mean to disrespect you but sometimes it seems like you jump to conclusion with very little reasoning and very little research. I know most of the time your trying to be helpful, but sometimes you seem really silly to me. Could you please enlighten everyone on what condition or provision of acceptances the OP is violating by failing his courses. I need more than it seem bad to fail courses. Everyone knows that but that’s not how things work especially with a revocation of an acceptance. DO you have some personal experience with such matters? Please enlighten me?

In my situation, I had my BS done back in December, and I took classes and put my graduation off until this May to defer my student loans. Now, I am also working 60 hours a week to pay off my credit cards and do major repairs on my car before med school starts, so what I did is I opted to take my classes for C, NC or the equivalent of Auditing. Since my degree is complete, my pre-requisites are done, I am accepted, and getting a No Credit would not lower my GPA, it will not matter. My point is...Check and see if you can take a W, NC, or audit the grades..maybe that is a possibility for you. Like BMW said, almost all universities have allowances for late withdrawal or auditing for illness, injury, or other circumstances. Talk with the Dean's office at your college about it.

I totally agree with you Discover and
OSUdoc08 you seem uninformed to me! 🙁

revocing someones acceptance is a big deal and would need a hearing... I mean what are they going to argue? But just to be safe you should talk to your school.

I have my BA too and I’m also taking several classes just “for me” this spring, and I dont think I would get my acceptance revoked if I fail them.

For anyone who is informed...what are some ways people have had their acceptances revoked? Also, do I still have to deal with AACOMAS at this point, I mean they dont know what classes I’m taking this spring, would I have to send AACOMAS my spring transcripts or do I just send it to my futur med-school once grades are done. Am I done with AACOMAS?

Yup, once you are accepted, you are DONE with AACOMAS 😀 . Send your transcript to your future med school only.

I am in the process of discussing my options with my grad school adviser. I could withdraw right now, but I would have to reimburse my dept for tuition since I was on a graduate research associate position and I dont have that kind of money so I think I am kind of forced to take the F's, but after hearing discover and medic's stories I dont feel so panicked now.

It is a policy of practically all medical schools that all transcripts be sent in, especially those completed after submission of the application.

If you would like to challenge this statement, I'd like to see a listing of schools that have an exception----I have yet to find any.

Additionally, it is written in admissions policy at most schools that upon acceptance, school must be completed "in an acceptable manner."

Do not turn to a public forum for this kind of answer! Contact your school. That is the only logical thing to do. Oh, and by the way, "hypothetically speaking" means nothing until you having something down in writing, confirmed (an e-mail w/ the appropriate response could do the trick in this case).

All schools require you to send a transcript by a particular date, and generally they will tell you what type of coursework needs to be verified (up till the end of a certain semester/quarter, or completion of a degree, etc.). Check this stuff...in writing!

If your school doesn't require you to "maintain an acceptable GPA" by the time you matriculate, you MAY be OK. This doesn't preclude you from finding out on your own though. Double check this stuff. You don't want it to come back and bite you later.

If you're going to speak to someone in the admissions office, make sure it's the director of admissions or some other higher authority. Just a word of caution.
