Fainting Over Nothing?

hmm do u have any allergies to certain agents they use to form casts? if its not the grotesque aspect there might be an allergic response. Or something in that room may have triggered a weird immunoresponse or something of the nature. When you drank water did you feel a whole lot better? If so you probably weren't hydrated. Has there ever been another incident like this one?

This has happened to me before, and I noticed it happens when I forget to eat before going into the clinic. I too have low blood pressure naturally, and almost always forget to eat when I'm in a hurry. Could that be the cause in your case? I have a lot of clinical experience and currently work in surgery, so I knew being able to handle the environment isn't what I was lacking!

wait i thought solarpower was asking the question where did u come from wannabe? LOL

Hmm, maybe it was allergic, but I didn't smell anything different. I've never even felt like I would faint my entire life so this was weird. I had eaten before my shift and had water during. When I drank the water after leaving the room, I still felt really sick and apparently looked really pale. It was more annoying than anything because I felt too sick to get up but not deathly ill either. I just don't want this to happen again. Oh and my bp was normal and blood sugar was high, (but probably since they made me start eating tons of stuff).

If you were standing, you may have had your knees locked.

+1

Yeah when I feel fainty it's usually because I forgot to eat or stay hydrated. Sounds like a fluke--forget about it.

I've had this feeling when watching the Doctor examine the patient, it was in a small room and there was 3 other people in there (For a total of 5). I had to step out, felt dizzy and weird.

Had no problem watching open heart surgery though so I'm just chalking it up to a fluke, weird low blood sugar thing.

Possibly this. When performing at recitals, I was always reminded not to lock my knees for an extended period of time.

Funny you say that because I remember consciously thinking NOT to lock my knees. The program I'm in stresses that to students at the beginning because of people locking their knees and fainting.

Hopefully it was just a fluke!

It happens.

Happened to me shadowing a neurosurgeon and then never happened again. Unless it reoccurs there is no need to worry.

Something like this happened when I was shadowing in the OR in high school. The surgeon let me watch a mastectomy up close from a step ladder overlooking the patient, and I was super excited/fascinated. Then last thing I remember was that I got tunnel vision and had to step outside before whiting out. xD

Not a good first impression, to say the least..

Maybe my mind was in shock by seeing such a new and gruesome thing up close. I'm not really sure what happened. Apparently it's pretty common from what the surgeon told me (I did eat and drink beforehand too)
