My lab partner is not the greatest student. She has a low GPA, a lazy/immature attitude, and while she speaks English okay, her writing is pretty bad and filled w/ spelling errors and grammar mistakes. I pretty much do all the work in each lab session because she doesn't read the lab manual before class. But I'm a nice guy, so I help her out as best I could w/ the class and w/ pharm school applications (even though I felt it was a lost cause and that she would make a pretty bad pharmacist). Like she says she wants to be a pharmacist for the $$$ lol gl w/ that with this profession in the future. It turns out that she actually got an interview invite to the same school that I got accepted to and is my top choice and I already had my heart on going there. The school has pretty good average stats of students they accept, they require a degree, reputable, although they don't do a writing test on the interview day but somehow she got in 😱😕

So anyway, now I'm reconsidering even going to this school. Do you feel it is fair to judge a pharm school based on who they accept? Even if they have a good reputation and are well-established?

I think picking a school based on what you judge to be a lack of qualifications for a single accepted applicant is, to put it nicely, stupid. It doesn't even sound like you have a complete picture of her application (PCAT score? Experience? LORs? Volunteer work?) so she may have been a more competitive applicant than you realize.

Sounds like a URM. They get big boosts when they apply to professional schools. Don't count it against the school...

I am learning all kinds of acronyms lately! Fun!

I agree with what others are saying, don't hold it against the school just because they accept one bad apple. She might surprise you anyway.

I know someone with a cum 2.6 (not saying I think they're dumb or anything), but he got accepted to DYou'ville. So far it's the only school he heard back from. He applied to most of the NY schools. I don't think he's dumb at all, he comes off as quite competent, but just does terrible on tests. Maybe he did amazing on the PCAT, but I have no idea. But I know how you feel Tomatochip, i never thought he would get in anywhere, but I did proofread his personal statement and help him apply.

im sure they are a few individuals in the class that don't seem like they take school seriously. you will be surprised how well they do on exams. some people are stronger in some in one area than others. we have a girl in class that never shows up but shes one of a few students who have straight A's. dont' judge a book by its cover. a lot of times you may think you know a person but you have no idea.

I'm sorry but I have to call troll.

If not.

I feel sorry for her to have been invited for an interview where they accept such a condecending person who feel superior to others because you see one aspect of another persons life.

Is that a joke? Condescending people are a dime a dozen in pre-pharmacy as I recall. If pharmacy schools didn't accept condescending people, who would they accept?
