Hi,
I got admission into Ross and am still awaiting to interview for St. George's University. Can someone please advise the positives and negatives of joining the medical school in September vs January? And what is real difference btw Ross and SGU aside from the living conditions? Who has the better professors, which one has students that match better residencies, and better scored boards? Any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance

September is better than January.

If you start in January, you will have less time to prepare for the USMLE. You will not get the rotation sites of your choice (or it will be very hard for you to do so because the popular ones will be filled). You will really have to crunch in your time with few, if any breaks, to Match into a Residency.

Now, if you postponed to May, you would have more time for each of these things I have mentioned, but September is fine just as well.

That's all I'll comment on for now. More people will post and provide some conflicting info on the other questions you asked. Do some research yourself and take it with a grain of salt. In the end, both are good schools.

Start whenever you are ready because 6 months or a year will no make a difference in the long run.

If you start in Sept. then expect to graduate 4 years after. If you start in January or May, then expect to graduate with the following Sept. class because starting in January 2007 and making the 2010 match is extremely difficult and may hinder opportunity because of time contraints.
