Hi everyone,
I am an IMG from Canada. I am writing my PS for family medicine but have a big problem. At the start of 4th year, I wanted to do surgery and did most of my electives in surgery. But I have had a change of heart and want to do FM back in Canada. I have 1 elective schedule right before interviews but after the deadline for submitting applications.

I imagine that most FM programs will notice this and look negatively upon it. I was hoping to use my FM PS to somehow justify receiving an interview despite this. I will be honest, I dont have a real good reason other than I dont see myself matching in to surgery in Canada and am willing to do FM just to be able to practice in Canada so that I can be close to my wife and child.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to put a good spin on the change from surgery to FM that does not include that fact that I just want to practice in Canada. Any help will be appreciated.

Sticking with standard reasons people choose primary care or opt out of specialty care including getting to know patients, regular office hours, interested in broad spectrum practice is always good. It's not like you have to write a manifesto masterpiece which can backfire anyway.
