When researching potential family med residency opportunities, what aspects have you all found to be the most important to look for? Are there areas of expertise that you all have found to be more valuable than others?

What are you interested in? Is there a specific area of Family Med (eg women's health, family planning, community health, public health, etc) that interests you? And what part of the country are you looking to be in?

I am looking for a well-rounded foundation in FM. I am ultimately very interested in sports ortho, but want a strong base. I would love to be in the southeast (SC,FL, GA, TN), primarily. However, I am open to anywhere that provides strong training.

the most important questions are what do you want to do and where do you want to do it. you need to be specific and realistic with yourself.

all decent programs will be well rounded and "strong." i found it helpful to focus on deciding how important the following things were to me, because fewer programs had good training in all of these areas.
-do you really want to do OB? higher risk OB? surgical OB?
- inpatient w/ ICU, EM with trauma training. Emphasis on pocus and invasive procedures
- scopes, vasectomies, injections, derm procedures, gyn procedures, etc?

the rest you can sorta muddle through with youtube and uptodate

but overall fit, culture, and location are probably more important than any one thing

Find a place that has an in-house sports medicine fellowship
