Hi All,

I'm a second year resident, soon to be PGY-3, trying to get some info and begin the quest of a post residency job for July 2013. I currently live in NYC (born and raising in the tri-state area) and looking to relocate to Florida (Miami area but as north as Boca Raton). I am trying to get a feel for what salaries are like in the area. My understanding is that residencies in Florida pay horribly (compared to NYC). Is family medicine as a specialty also paid poorly in Florida? In NYC it seems as though $120-140k is starting salary. I'm hoping to start in the 160+ range.

I'd like to work outpatient and for a hospital system or larger outpatient group.

Thoughts? Comments?

Thanks!

I'm a rising PGY-3 family medicine resident in South Florida, and yes our resident salaries are pretty low, but the job market has been pretty good. I have been offered jobs with salary ranges of $150K-185K most of those even offering loan forgiveness options. I'm looking to go to Central Florida where some places are offering salaries around $200K. Jacksonville has tons of great offers. I would look at practicelink.com. Family Med docs are in high demand around here...thank goodness 🙂
