Just to let you know, I work in Pueblo. Yes, it is very cheap to live here. This means that NO-ONE has money either. I work at the community health center where the "good" insurance is Medicare. I have a good time but the type of medicine you practice is basically rural medicine. I'm FP but none of the specialists will see patients, or they take 2 a month period. I had a patient yesterday who broke his hand and I just happened to over hear the NP saying she couldn't find an ortho doc to take him to put on a cast since he is indigent care plan. Fortunately for the patient, I learned how to cast and put one on the next day. I am THE ONLY doctor in the building who does OMT, casts, does joint injections, takes toenails off, sutures, I'&D's abcess, etc. I love doing procedures and made a point in residency to learn how to do all those things.
My point is: If you expect to work in Pueblo or any rural setting as an FP you had better be self-sufficient because 3/4 of the patients are medicaid, medicare, indigent care, migrant worker, or homeless and the specialists don't lift a finger to take care of any patient who cannot pay.
