I am a DO student that failed my pediatrics core rotation third year, I retook the rotation and passed it with a High Pass. After this I took a rotation in a Pediatric Speciality and passed that with a High pass. I have never failed any other rotation or class in my past medical curriculum. Finally, my Level 1 score is 446 and level 2 score 423, I passed all my Comlex levels on first try. I haven't taken the USMLE step exams.

I have been hearing horror stories from my professors and friends what will happen when the osteopathic residencies merge with MD's, i have heard from some that there is no point in me applying.

I am class of 2020 and will be applying to Match this year 2020

I am feeling truly horrified. My last few rotations I have Honor grades for them, however, everywhere rotation I undertake, i feel like there is this dark secret I have to hide about me.

If anybody has encountered a similar case and has some tips for me that would be really appreciated. I am really worried with how I should explain this in my personal statement, without people thinking I am a mess and if there are any FM programs that would be interested in me as a student.

Don't explain it in your PS. Failing a rotation then passing it with High Pass is not the end of the world. You're worrying about nothing. You'll be fine.

Yes, there will be plenty of FM programs that will be interested in you.

As far as the single accreditation system is concerned, things are always blown out of proportion. The sky is not falling. Traditionally osteopathic programs that will now fall under the ACGME will likely continue to favor DOs, particularly in primary care. That's what I've seen so far, and what other PDs have expressed.

Do you know if your school even has a notation on your transcript or Dean's letter if you had to remediate a clerkship/course? Some schools don't as long as you pass the remediation, so residencies may not even be aware this happened.

On my transcript it says Pediatric Clerkship Fail and then below Pediatric Clerkship High Pass, with an R in front of both the courses to signify that I had to repeat.

Seriously, don't sweat it. It always feels worse when you're in it, but from the adcom side over here, one fail with a high pass in peds + with an American grad is going to be fine. Agree with above, don't put it in your PS.

It's a blip, not a pattern.
