Guys, I'm 30. My parents are in their 60's. We haven't been in contact for 10 years because we're estranged, and I don't speak to them. So... how exactly do I go about filling out the FAP? I can't proceed without putting in some value for my parents' income but damn if I know what it is! The FAP requirements are ridiculous.

Reach out to AAMC and explain your situation in a brief letter, there are some steps, but they should accommodate your situation.
For AACOMAS FAP, you do not need your parents' financial information.

FAP has a process for estrangement... email them and they will send you the forms and tell you what documentation is necessary so you won’t need to provide parental financial info. It can take several weeks to process it all so try to turn it all in ASAP. Good luck!

I was a FAP recipient with parental estrangement. I had to provide documentation that I grew up poor/disadvantaged. Part of that documentation included letters from a teacher, professor, and someone who took me in while I was homeless as a youth.

If you grew up disadvantaged, you have a good shot. Good luck.
