why are barbs contraindicated for the tx of delirium and dementia? just b/c you cant think straight when youre sedated and have your cns globally depressed? or is there some other more serious drug effect going on?

thx for the answers ahead of time guys.

ok, so NONE of you guys helped. thanks for nothing.

new question, about carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (ie, acetazolamide): how does inhibiting CAD make a compound diuretic? is it by blocking HCO3- and H+ formation ... thereby generating fewer osmolytes in the renal tubules? or is it something else? thanks in advance if you answer, no thanks and a plague on your families if you dont.

Try looking it up before you lambast your peers, kiddo.

No one is going to help you out with that attitude.

I thought this was a thread about livestock or corn, not pharm.

Consider cows for example. May barbituates can suppress appetite, lowering the quality of meat.

I know i shouldn't respond but i really couldn't help it.......

CAIs work in the luminal membranes of the proximal tubule blocks the sodium bicarb reabsorption, causing sodium bicarb diuresis and a reduction in total bicarb stores.
It also works in the ciliary body of the eye, but i'm sure you already knew that

just want to add some stuff:

It can be a compound diuretic cuz HCO3 is big molecule, and it takes Na+ and a whole lot of water with it. So it has the characteristics of an osmotic diuretic (like mannitol) as well.

holla holla

No no people, you're not getting it....How does it all relate to livestock? And crops. And combines... 🙂

OK, I'm done.

So did I. And I think that actually might have been more entertaining!

It would be interesting to see a horse on a CAI. It would bring new meaning to "I have to pee like a race horse"
