Fast Tracking to C&A with Missing Prerequisite

So I've run into an issue in which I might not be able to complete geriatric psychiatry prior to beginning third year due to complications created by the COVID outbreak. Is it possible for me to still apply for C&A fast tracking and just add on a month of geriatric psychiatry, or am I completely screwed? Thanks for any help or guidance with this, I'm kind of heartbroken

You should talk to your PD. This is an unprecedented global pandemic that is affecting everyone and everything.

I don't see why you couldn't delay your geriatrics rotation until later in 3rd year and still have it complete before graduation/fast tracking.

Either way, talk to your PD and possible any CAP PDs you might have access to?

I think there will be a lot of latitude given when it comes to requirements. Saving lives trumps rules and everyone knows it.

Trouble is that required 12 months of continuous outpatient per the APBN. Only way I could do that would be if I started my outpatient rotations early, but with staffing, I just don't see that happening

I guess I should just get an app ready and hope for the best, geriatric psych or no. I'm just wondering if it would be an enormous waste of money to apply without it

I don't think so. You shouldn't have to spend much for a fellowship. About 40% of slots went unfilled last time so don't go too crazy with the numbers.

THIS. I was supposed to take step 3 but it was cancelled (i live in a covid hot spot). Will this also be a problem? I'm sure i'll be able to take it by the summer at the latest but the scores will not be in by the time i apply july 1.

Our PD said a week ago that the head of the ABPN came out with a statement saying they will let programs use their own judgment about promotions and requirement completion, and be flexible in enforcing requirements that have been missed due to COVID-19. This likely means that having a month's worth of requirements missing will not be a dealbreaker, though talking to your PD is definitely in order.

can someone also pls comment on the importance of having completed usmle step 3 prior to applying as well? goal is to take the examination beginning of summer. please help!
