Sometimes the level of incompetence by some of the agencies we have to deal with (FCVS, various state medical boards, +/- ECFMG for some, institutional graduate medical offices) just beggars belief.

Without just making this a rant about the FCVS, has anyone found any reliable avenue to submit feedback? The FCVS essentially has a monopoly on the business of independent credential verification (fortunately, not all states require it at this point). But their lack of customer service, high cost, and frank disregard for our professional and personal well being (read: unemployed until they do their part in verifying my credentials so I can get a state medical license) is frustrating.

If the agency exists for the sake of verifying our (physicians) credentials, shouldn't we physicians have more input into the standards -- particularly turn around times -- that they are held to?

In regards to a method for submitting feedback about FCVS: there is little recourse.

I had such problems with the incompetence of my FCVS representative that I finally got his supervisor on the phone. She corrected some problems but when they finally finished my report, it had me completing a Vascular Surgery fellowship (I won't go into details here about how that apparently happened or what I've done so far, because I've done it here at length in other threads), but suffice it to say that in September it will be 1 year since I have asked for a new Physician Profile correctly showing my training and have nothing to show for it.

I don't need it for my state and I'm not planning on any moves, but after spending several hundred dollars I expect to get a corrected report.😡

I have been fortunate and haven't had any problems with FCVS. Medical boards are another story.

Bit of advice, give yourself 6 months to complete a license.

FCVS delayed my license by two months. Finally I was able to get a supervisor to fix the problem. Apparently if you check the "chief resident" box on the form explaining your graduate medical education they think you did an extra year and they want another form explaining that. After 2 months of delaying it, they finally told me what the problem was, and I disavowed any indication of being a chief.
