You might as well apply now. You don't have to wait for the new MCAT to apply----get it done as early as possible.

Would you rather lose a few bucks or another year of your life?

see the "recommendations from advisors" thread in this forum...might help a little

If you are going to apply this next coming cycle for the entering class of 2006, taking graduate classes is not going to help you. Most places, you hope if you get you app in early, will be making decisions on you in your first semester of your graduate classes, before your grades are even posted so they won't even recognize those classes. Taking second semester classes would be even a more waste of money, assuming that you have already graduated with an undergrad major and these are just bonus classes for your GPA. If you feel that your GPA is going to hold you down and you want to increase it by taking graduate classes, then you have to wait a year to apply and apply for the entering class of 2007. Taking classes now will not help you out unless you take a few this summer. You may just have to take a year off to improve your application.

I agree that improving your application is the way to go. If you reapply with low stats, theres a chance you will get the same result. I don't disagree with applying early, but you do have to change something in your application if you really are set on medicine. I reccomend one of two things:

1. If you can somehow volunter with and get a really good reccomendation from an established doctor, then your application will stand out much more. It will also take the focus off of your academic weakness. Think of it as getting your foot in the door of the medical field.

2. Join the Peace Corp. This is the same principle as above, just a little more extreme.

As far as your academics, you should do something to prove to admissions that you can make it through the rigors of med school. A higher MCAT could definitely show that, and also the fact that you took it again and improved shows determination.

Keep in mind that this is all just my opinion. Good luck.

thanks kev bot.

i do have alot of voulunteer experience--i work in a lab at a med. school doing genetics research, i worked as a phlebotomist, volunteered in a hospital, mentored kids, worked at nypirg, etc. etc. so i am hoping one of these will give me a good LOR.

other than mcat the only other thing i can think of is a masters--or a [post bac--and i am not sure i can afford that, but i thanK you for your suggestions...
