Hi everyone.
Do you feel behind sometimes because you feel you are taking wrong classes or not bio or chem major? I've been lately feeling I'm so behind because I feel like I'm taking wrong classes and haven't took any pre-reqs yet in my sophomore year.

so far I've taken all the lower GE classes and this semester I'm taking Calc1 and Anatomy along with 3 lower GE classes. Next semester, I'm in Physiology, Gen. Chemistry, Med Terminology, and upper GE.

and When do I start study for MCAT? because I haven't took any of Biology or Chemistry classes yet. Should I take those classes first then study or just study?

Thank you... I feel that I need to rush into taking the pre-reqs because I haven't took any of them. Any Advises?

I don't feel like I'm behind anyone. Granted I'm not a biology major like most premeds, but traditional premeds don't have anything close to my work history or life experiences. Fifteen months volunteering on a big rusty ship is way better than a few more science credits. In any case, science majors don't have an advantage when it comes to admission rates. I read somewhere that music majors actually have the highest rate of acceptance to medical school.

You will need to take the prereq classes before you start studying for the science portion of the MCATs. You can start studying for the verbal portion now if you like. Your local library will have a book or two that will help you study this.

Don't rush taking the prereq classes. At least, not to the point where you try to do all of them at once. Even if you don't take the MCAT until the end of your senior year, the worst that could happen would be that you would end up with a gap year between college and medical school. I'm sure you can think of something useful to do then.

Take the classes first. There's a reason why they're called PRE-reqs and not co-reqs or post-reqs.

My advice? Get over that feeling, the sooner the better. You don't have to rush into taking your prereqs, and you shouldn't rush into taking them. The object here is to do well in your classes, not to do them quickly. Besides learning the material, it's the grades that matter to adcoms, not the number of semesters. If it takes you an extra year to apply, so what? There's no prize for finishing the fastest. Remember that, and keep plugging away. :luck: to you. 🙂
