Feeling worried about application

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
your gpa and DAT aren't terrible, id recommend maybe retaking and try to bring up bio and ochem. i would maybe wait and apply next year. continue to make A's if you haven't already graduated, if you did continue to take a few courses this year and make A's. it'll give you more time to get better LOR's and get more involved to get your hours up.

I think your bio and ochem DAT scores are too low, unfortunately. I'd say you could even have a TS of 19 with like 19, 19, 19 on all the sciences and that would be fine - I just think those two 17s will hurt you. I'd say re-take the DAT in 3 months but you need to have time to build the rest of your resume too. Maybe you could get a job as a dental assistant and apply next year. Sorry to be a downer, but I think the timeline is tight with getting in all those ECs and retaking the DAT to still apply this summer.

You can try pedo offices for dental assistant work - they train off the street (although unfortunately they don't pay great). Best of luck to you.

We can't expect you to have a chance if you yourself do not expect yourself to have a chance. Stats alone, I thought you certainly had a chance, but after reading your own description of yourself, I would definitely not be content enough to apply in your shoes. My advice is to figure out what you need to correct in order for you to feel comfortable with your application. If you feel your EC's, shadowing, and LOR are lacking beause of a lacking effort on your part, then make an effort to correct those. I honestly feel that your DAT scores would be okay for an application this cycle if everything else demonstrated that you were improving and had the ambition to do well in dental school, but at this point, if you're going to wait for next cycle to improve everything that you said were lacking, then take the time to improve your scores too.

I think you have a chance. Let's be real: your AA and TS match up with the average score of accepted applicants. Yes, although bio and ochem are low, your gchem sort of balances it and your RC really balances it. Schools will take note of your awesome RC score. Never mind the fact that you did pretty well in math as well. Your GPAs look good. I would take the scores on SDN with a grain of salt: a lot of people around the country score 19's and 20's and get in, as evidenced by the statistics. SDN is a small applicant pool compared to the masses. I would definitely apply. Don't wait. Just my two cents. (And good luck) 🙂

I suggest a retake, the low science scores really dont help your case. You also should aim for 100 hrs shadowing (a few schools require this amount) and try getting some more volunteer hours. If you have the money to throw down for applications then go for it, but if you dont have $2000 to potentially lose, retake. Even if youre retaking though, it cant hurt to send your app out to a few schools and see what happens while you study for a retake.

Hi guys, I have a 3.57 ogpa, 3.34 sgpa. Took DAT a few days ago with 18 PAT, 20 QR, 25 RC, 17 bio, 22 genchem, 17 ochem, TS 19 AA 20. My major is neuroscience. My worry is that I have about 70 hrs of shadowing experience but I was never really involved in any clubs throughout college and my volunteering experience is kinda of low like 25 hours. I've had a few part time jobs as an IT assistant and waitress to pay for some college expenses. I did research for about 1 semester too. I feel like my LOR's are going to be pretty mediocre as I asked a few professors from my large university and the one professor I had a alright relationship with told me she was busy )): Do you think I had a chance? I feel like I'm not as well rounded as I should be. Is there any advice for me?
Yes you are ok. Do not worry
