I find it frustrating that psychiatry fellowship applications are not a uniform application. Going to each and every institution website to put all the documents they want together is a pain. Almost incentive to not apply. Its also disheartening when the applications request your Deans letter from medical school and other med school documents. What relevance does your deans letter or med school transcript have on performance for fellowship? 😕

Forensic psychiatry fellowship does not use the MATCH and their applications are all unique and don't follow the same schedule. Some want their applications by a certain month, others, another month. If any of you want to go into forensic fellowship, know this well in advance because by the time I started applying, some of the programs deadlines were already closed.

Special thanks to my then PD who told me that it was part of the MATCH, and then when I found out and told her about this, not to point out she was wrong (heck I was happy I got into my #1 program), but to prevent her from doing this to other residents, she denied she ever told me that, and I could tell she was intentionally lying. Now that's when I got pissed. (Her statement was witnessed by others, and she gave that characteristic smile I learned she gave when these things happen).

Aw well, I don't have to go through that BS anymore.

I feel your pain. I am looking at fellowship websites right now and went on a rant about the irrelevance of getting a recommendation from my dean from 4 years ago. Glad I'm not the only one who feels this is stupid.
