Does there exist somewhere a list of the ACGME-accredited Pain fellowships run through PM&R departments?

Also... is there a list somewhere of the Sports fellowships that will be ACGME-accredited through PM&R departments? I realize that this process is still ongoing, but it would be nice to know if the AAPM&R or AAP or some organization has an active database of these things somewhere.

As of my most recent research on this topic this seems to be the latest list of currently ACGME accredited PM&R Pain Fellowships:

1. University of California at Los Angeles / WLA VA
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Multicampus Program in Pain Medicine

2. University of Colorado Program (unsure whether under both Anesthesia and PM&R or just PM&R dept only)

3. Sinai Hospital of Baltimore Program/Orthopaedic and Spine Specialists
(Michael B. Furman, MD still saying he's working hard to keep his accreditation under another academic institution)

4. Harvard Medical School/Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Program

5. University of Michigan Program (under both Anesthesia and PM&R)

6. Temple University Hospital Program (unsure whether they are keeping their accreditation or not under Dr. Falco)

7. Virginia Commonwealth University Health System Program

8. Louisiana State University Program (under both Neurology and PM&R)

9. GTUH/NRH Pain Management Training Program (Georgetown University)

10. RIC/Northwestern University (under both Anesthesia and PM&R)

11. Loma Linda University (under both Anesthesia and PM&R)

we're in the process of updating it but there is a fellowship database on the AAPM&R website: http://aapmr.org/member/felsearch.htm

For ACGME accredite pain fellowships - probably the quickest thing is to go to the http://www.acgme.org/adspublic/ website and search under pain.

Nothing yet for sports medicine - won't know until ACGME accreditation process is completed on the first batch of fellowships. There are PM&R sports fellows who will try to take the sports medicine board exam by having their fellowship directors help them claim that their training is equivalent to ACGME accredited sports fellowships. We won't know if they will be successful for a few months.

hope this helps

Loma Linda, Northwestern, LSU, and Michigan's programs are ALL headed up by non-physiatrists. IMHO, the only authentically PM&R-based ACGME programs come 2008 will be UCLA, Colorado, MCV, Spaulding, and NRH (let's wait and see re Furman and Falco)

From what I do know, Colorado's program is run by both Anesthesia and PM&R and offer 2 positions (one position under the PM&R guise and the other position under the Anesthesia guise).

Also given the new interventional spine fellowship starting at MCV, I'm wondering if the PM&R pain fellowship is shifting gears towards more anesthesia based training to differentiate itself from the interventional spine fellowship.

That would really only leave UCLA, Spaulding & NRH as the only real PM&R-based ACGME programs.

the NRH program is run equally by 1 anesthesiologist and 1 physiatrist. and, i dare say that there's not too much physiatry going on there.....

The northwestern fellowship has 4 anesthesia spots and 1 PM&R spot. Dr. Stanos decides on the 1 PM&R fellow and the fellow spends a lot of his time with Dr. Stanos/Harden and the RIC crew at the chronic pain center (soon to move to a very nice location on Michigan Ave) and the SSRC in addition to time in the Anesthesia deptmt to fulfill ACGME requirement and get procedures. The PM&R fellow's curriculum is a bit different from the anesthesia pain fellow from what I have heard.
