Are fellowship interviews less formal than medical school and residency interviews. Does one have to wear a suit. I am female...
Can I wear a skirt and blouse or dress pants and blouse?
Also any fellowship interview tips are appreciated.
Thanks.

They are always formal in my opinion...just like any professional job interview. When you first meet someone in this set of circumstances, you should even allow for being slightly more formal than projected in invitations sent your way.

For men, that means a suit and tie. Period. For women, that means the equivalent. I think a few possibilities such as a business suit with dressy flats or heels, a skirt/blouse, or a dress pants/blouse combination (with the same dressy flats or heels) would all be appropriate. I would keep makeup, hair, cut of clothing, and jewelry all more conservative than not.

I cannot believe I just attempted to answer a woman's fashion query. Oh, how the mighty have fallen...

I went on a fellowship interview literally less than a week after I got back from Iraq. I simply could not find my suit and tie, so tried to dress with just shirt and tie. I still was offered the spot and then the Army told me that I could not do the fellowship (again); hence, why I am no longer in the Army. Man, I cannot describe what it must have been like to interview me back then after living Spartan style for a year and coming back to this world, but I think my interviewers understood my set of circumstances. Otherwise, I agree with TN, dress your best!!!
