I was wondering how a fellowship works. I realize that it is after residency, however, I'm unclear as to whether you work the same type of hours or not? Is the pay same as a resident? I'm interested in cardiology or oncology which to my understanding is done after IM internship.

Additionally I'm a bit curious as to the differences in knowledge from a surgeon vs. a different speciality. Like a cardiologist vs. a cardiothoracic surgeon. Would the cardiologist have more knowledge about the disease itself and the cardiothoracic surgeon know how to "fix" it?

I apologize if these questions have been asked before.
