Hey guys!

I was recently invited to join FGLSAMP and MESA and I was wondering if any of my fellow pre-meds had any experience/knowledge concerning these organizations?

Apparently these organizations help minority students pursue science, technology, engineering and mathematics degrees. Because my goal is to earn an MD/PhD, I was wondering if these organizations give students opportunities to be involved in research which is biologically and/or medically related?

In addition to scholarship money, do you guys know if there are any additional advantages to becoming a member of these organizations?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I was a MESA student in community college! The program really helped me get involved in research and other activities- they provide lots of resources. This is how I got my first research internship, in addition to scholarships, trips to conferences, and lots of networking opportunities. The program offers great support to students, and since they target those who are first generation to go to college, the support they provide is essential to many students (me included). Like I said, they have lots of resources but you have to be actively involved so you can take advantage of them 😉
I recommend joining. There's no membership fee or anything (unless that has changed) so you have nothing to lose. 🙂
