So for the 1st time im taking pre-med classes, and i realized that they all have labs.

No biggie, i loved lab in high school. Actually doing something is way more fun then sitting in class all day...

What im finding ... hilarious? is the following..

Organic Chem 1
4 credit class
3 hours a week - lecture
4 hours a week - lab

Now, im a simple kind of guy. The sky is blue ( not eggshell w/ a hint of opauqe cream ) ... grass is green, and not the latest political movement to hit the nation.

4 + 3 = 7.... wait no... 4 + 3 = 4

Maybe im missing something, but every other class im looking out ( Sans lab ) works on lecture hours = credit hours....

strange

You are way better off asking someone at your own institution because every institution seems to do these types of things differently. I know my Gen-chem included lab and it was 5 credits, 4 hours of lecture a week + 3 hours of lab a week.

Orgo lab is usually 4 hours anyways though, but again it all depends on the institution. Maybe ask a prof or an advisor or a friend that has taken the class at the institution.

BTW, another local school is 2 hours lecture + 3 hours lab = 5 hours week / 4 credit course

so im looking at 4 credits @ 7 hours or 4 credits @ 5 hours

I think it's a way of punishing science students, since the classes are obviously much easier than other disciplines!

When deciding the credit value of courses, many schools view 3 hours of lab as roughly equivalent to 1 hour of lecture. I understand that the math still doesn't quite work out, but labs are credited in a similar way at many institutions.

This. Annoyingly stupid, but true. Granted, though, that it would be a sick number of credits if it were counted by contact hours. My favorites are upper level chem courses which were only lab. Quantitative lab=2 credits, two four hour labs per week. Gas and liquid chromatography=1 credit, one four hour lab. Biochemical Techniques=3 credits, two five hour labs per week.
