We have to pick last year projects soon. The general outline examples included:

"
- Case report or case series.
- “Review article” on a therapeutic problem, drug distribution or delivery problem (however, it should present new information not previously published in an existing review article).
- Survey (distribution to other health care facilities, universities, pharmacists, students, etc)
- Protocol development
- A pharmacoeconomic analysis or meta-analysis based on the medical literature or patient data bases.
- Retrospective review, such as a drug use evaluation, cost evaluation, safety evaluation, drug efficacy, drug/ intervention outcomes, etc.
- Pilot study, baseline data of a project or continuation of a project from the previous year.
"
I've got ~6 months to put something together. But I need to choose something by the end of next month. I really like ID. I'm planning on presenting whatever I put together at ASHP midyear. I've toyed around with the idea of doing a monte carlo simulation study as it circumvents a lot of the problems with a student being able to come up with a decent project and i've gotten a fair amount of monte carlo exposure from my MBA program. But I'm completely open to any suggestions on producing something that would be useful.

Is this different from the research project? Because historically, students have been given a list of faculty projects and been told to pick one. Not been responsible for coming up with the idea themselves.

My understanding was different when I spoke with one of the two coordinators. I'm guessing they might have been meaning it was an option to make your own or I might have misinterpreted. I know a fellow classmate that already has hers approved as it was a longitudinal sort of project she came up with so I'm going with the former over the latter.

I can tell you that depending on what kind, a meta analysis is a PITA.

I just know faculty have been asked to generate a list of ideas for student projects. I consulted on a couple of them. You could come up with your own, but you'd have to find a faculty sponsor, I guess. Might be better off picking something simple from the list. PM me if you want more specific, unvarished info. 😉

Case report or survey seems the easiest...continuation or baseline data project could be fun. Any seems like a potential publication.

Update: I'm doing a retrospective analysis. Its nearly midnight and bed doesn't seem feasible for several hours at least with this project's proposal due in a week and three other large projects due within the next week and a half. I guess be careful what you ask for because you might just get it. Here's to learning experiences 👍

It is a shame that you are a guy and that lea is happy with her partner, I get the feeling you two would really hit it off.

Story of my life! Got caffeine? 😛

Funny! You can never have too many friends so perhaps in that capacity we can still hit it off someday. Midyear, maybe? 😉

I'll be there this year. We should get Z to bring us out to dinner on his expense account :meanie:

So what type of statistical test are you using? What type of data?
Not even close to methods yet, still working up the background. We're looking at qtc prolongation and fq when taken along meds. We were given a general area and I'm doing lit searches and reviews right now to see what we can narrow down to. I'm really stoked though as 90% of my class is doing surveys as their preceptors for the projects dont have easy access to data for their students. But my preceptor is at the VA and we get to use VISTA so I get to workup a real study. I'll post up my irb proposal when its done so you all can make fun 👍
