Hey all,
I'm a PA resident looking for some opinions on my dental school list, and whether I should add/drop/replace any. I want to stick to a limit of 10 schools.
Stats:
sGPA: 3.35
oGPA: 3.63
Sociology Major
DAT: 22AA/21TS/24RC/23PAT
~180 hrs in the dental office between shadowing and interning
~50 hrs of research (independent sociology research project based around access to dental care)
~80 hrs of volunteering (scattered over many different projects/organizations, max at 35 with one org.)
~700 hrs of leadership experience (worked as an RA + exec board within fraternity)
~500 hrs of work experience (factory work over the summer, nothing exciting here)
My list:
-Pitt
-Temple
-Iowa
-LECOM
-Maryland
-Case Western
-Tufts
-UNE
-UMich
-Minnesota
Schools I've definitely factored out (for a number of different reasons):
-Detroit Mercy
-UConn
-Penn
-Buffalo
-Nova
-OSU
-Tennessee
-VCU
-Boston
-Kentucky
-Midwestern, Ill
-WVU
I'm willing to travel, although there are obvious perks to staying closer to home. I'm also going to be applying for the Army HPSP, so I'm willing to put a pricey school on there or two. I'd prefer to assume that I'm not going to win it though. Lastly, I like the clinical program approach. I think hands-on experience is the best way for me to learn. I do not think that I want to specialize, as I did not find any specialties to be as exciting as general dentistry, but I do want to become the best general dentist that a patient can find.
Thank you in advance! 🙂
