HEY SDN!

I was wondering if any of y'all could give a current freshman advice on making it through finals week.

I start Dec 17th and I'm so scared!

Study. Study. And study a little bit more.

I went to a big school and we always had tons of little events during finals week to help keep students going. For instance, the largest classes (general chemistry, orgo 1, pre-calc, etc) would hold study/review sessions with all of the professors in our student center. You could drop in and get help or just listen. They would also bring baby animals to our library so we could pet them. Free massages in our health center. Things like that. Different student organizations would also set up tables and pass out snacks and bottles of water.

In terms of actual studying, finding a spot in our library was near impossible. I used to find unlocked buildings and study in one of those instead. Plus it was quieter and I wasn't sharing wifi with everyone. May be worthwhile finding some places to study other than your library.

Stay healthy!! Nothing sucks more than being sick during finals week.

Otherwise, realize you will probably be stressed. Do whatever you can to eliminate other stresses during that time. If your final is in a different building, go check it out the night before so you know exactly where it is. If you drive to campus, give yourself plenty of time and arrive early. You can always chill on campus somewhere and review.

And once you're done, realize you'll do it 7 more times (and then go to dental school!)

Good luck!

You have to know when to call it quits and just go to bed. I've stayed up plenty of nights trying to study and go through material over and over. I woke up not only exhausted but freaked out about remembering every single detail for the test.
I learned that I scored the best if I had a good night sleep. Study, but when it starts to get late and all the information starts to jumble up, go to bed. There are studies that say sleep helps you retaining information. Good luck!

Turn off your phone while you study, set a good schedule to study and stick to it. Give yourself some breaks between studying, go for a walk, work out, etc. Eat well and get enough sleep.

1. Don't take prescription ADHD medication if you don't have a prescription for it. You're a terrible person if you do this and are no better than Barry Bonds or A-Rod.

🤣🤣🤣

Adderall doesn't make someone magically smarter. Who cares if people take it.
