So who, like me has a complete case of senioritis? I have finals coming up next week and all I do is read messages on the SDN forum and check my in-box every two seconds. This application process is really sucking the life out of me. I hope I get an interview somewhere. The wait is driving me crazy. I'm considering applying some Caribbean medical schools because I'd hate to go through this again next year. Advice anyone? 😕

What are your stats? What schools did you apply to? When were you complete?

I applied to 26 schools so far, those with low stats and some that I really want to go to. As for my stats, I have 3.6 overall GPA, 3.45 science GPA, Biochem Major/Math minor at UCLA, and a ****ty MCAT because I'm a foreigner (26 - 10 PS, 10 BS, and a 6 in verbal). I have been put on hold for VCU and UCSD interview and haven't heard from a bunch of schools. I have a bunch of clinical experience. That pretty much sums it up. Oh, and I was complete for most schools at the beginning of October with secondary and rec letters in. What do you think? I still have some secondaries that I haven't filled out but I think I have a low chance of geting into a US med school.

The low verbal is probably hurting you. I understand though... I'm a foreigner and I have a low verbal too. I'm sorry. It really sucks...

Did you try to explain it in your secondaries? Did your pre-med advisor write something about it in your committee letter? Because I did all that and it helped a little bit. 🙂 Also, try to be pro-active, call the schools to check on your apps. Send them update letters too. You have nothing to lose! Good luck! :luck:

I did try to explain it in my secondaries. I went on to say how I consider it an advantage coming from a different background and having a different perspective on medicine and also pointed out the my humanities GPA is a 3.94 and the MCAT verbal is not representative of my ability to communicate, something to that effect. Thanks for the advice... I will definitely start calling in. Have you heard back from anywhere?

i interviewed at VCU and I have a 7 on my verbal. But i distinctly remember my interviewer commenting on it. He said it was on the low side but not alarming. He then went on to say...well if it was 6 then...thats not good. It is great that you adressed that in your application. Maybe you should write a letter of continued interest to all your schools and say something about your great ability to comprehend and analyze documents. Talk about you have been doing. Extra classes for reading comprehension. Reading more fiction and non-fiction...anything would help...

I have low scores on the MCAT. I received a 6 in verbal, 10 in physical sciences and 9 in the biological sciences. I received a few interviews at UCSF and UCLA. I just submitted my secondaries to the other UC's. Just believe in what you are doing and marvilous things will happen. I am not on here a lot to post, but I will try to post more often to help others who need the moral support.

That's great! Thank you so much. That really did cheer me up. I'll try to stay optimistic. Your post definitely helped! Is English your second language?

I have only heard back from a few schools: 1 interview, 1 rejection, and 2 holds. I applied to ~ 15 schools total, but I'm still waiting on all the others. Do call your schools and send update letters. If nothing else, it will force them to open your file again and take a look at it. It can't hurt! Good luck! :luck:
