Okay, how exactly does this financial aid process work? I know you fill out FAFSA, but what happens after that? 😕

Thanks for the help!!

It actually depends on the school - different schools use different fin aid forms.

Many schools require the FAFSA and another form called Need Access - a web-based form that is a pain to fill out. It requires your parents' financial information. Usually you also have to submit copies of your (and your parents) W-2 forms directly to the schools.

I believe that you only need to fill out the Need Access form if you want fin aid from the med school itself (but who wouldn't, right?) The website is www.needaccess.org if you'd like to check it out. The government (FAFSA) doesn't require parental information, because for their purposes all med students are considered independent.

Hope this helps. Good luck! 🙂

(This thread should probably be moved to the financial aid forum, but I'm a rookie and don't know how to do it - can anyone help? Thanks!)

it may be too late for some schools. u of md had a priority date of march 1 for financial aid, other than loans. You will always have loans available to you.
