Financial aid timeline

I’m assuming most, if not all schools won’t get around to giving financial aid packages until early-mid spring correct? Or is it one of those things that is very school dependent?

Yes at least all schools I’ve been accepted seem like they will give me aid package in April (oops). Heard some schools release merit scholarship offers earlier than that. Maybe it’s the need based aid that needs to wait til April? Someone with more experience and expertise, please confirm.
