Hi guys, been search around and not finding complete answers to my questions. Not sure if I am missing a search term that is commonly known around here because I am new.

I recently became interested in DO when a friend showed it to me this year. I had been wanting to try going for an MD, but it was going to be an uphill battle and don't like MD's that much. Had a DO doctor I liked and the DO ethos resonated with me when I heard it.

I have 1 letter of Rec from a teacher that I took several classes with. I also have a letter from a clinic I worked in in malaysia.

I am seeing that a lot of schools insist on DO writing a LOR for you. I'm curious how I should go about looking for a DO to shadow since I have never done anything like that before. Trying to figure everything out so I can apply this cycle and have a letter by the time a secondary comes around that requires it. Read: lock in a shadow or internship or other so I can be there for a few months. Basically free this summer so have plenty of time to be there and get to know them.

Is there a centralized way to find a DO to shadow? Or is it more Ad-Hoc and I should just start looking through a listing of DO's and start sending letters? Interested in hearing stories of finding someone to shadow.

I found this:

Not sure if this is meant for after school or not.

Any suggestions for finding a DO to shadow?

You could try emailing Western U to see if there's a doctor you can shadow.

That's what I did, and it worked out well for me.

This is the website I used to find DOs in San Diego area.
http://osteopathic.org/directory.cfm

I basically just searched for DOs in the area I wanted, called them up and asked them if they would let me shadow them for a few days. Hope this helps. If you want, PM me and I will give you the name of the physician I shadowed. She was really nice and I actually ended up learning a lot. Hope this helps.

Hello,
