I recently discovered the Osteopathic option for med school and find myself increasingly interested. I've been trying to find a mentor/DO to shadow in my area so that a) I could get a better feel for what being a DO really means and b) so I could potentially get a letter of recommendation, something is is required or highly advisable by most DO schools (at least, according to what I read).

I've tried using the mentor exchange at do-online and haven't gotten any responses. Has anyone else had any luck with this? Or did you use an alternative method to find a DO to shadow?

here we go again. there are numerous threads on this very topic, the search function comes in handy, but I will try to answer anyway.

if the AOA mentor program isn't working, hit the yellow pages, or google search for DOs in your area. call them up, go visit them, and ask if you can shadow them. easy (yeah right):meanie:!

Good luck, it is a little frustrating to find someone to shadow and getting a letter on top of that.

Yes this was frustrating for me. I also filled out that mentor program but never got a reply so used this search instead

It will show you D.Os around the area which makes it a lot easier, but the numbers may have changed I don't know how current the phone numbers are I had to call around a lot to find that some of the numbers were not in service anymore. Anyway, good luck!
